The Ryder Cup introduces local Impact & Legacy Fund for 2027 match in Limerick
Ryder Cup Europe today announces the introduction of a new local Impact & Legacy Fund for the 2027 Ryder Cup in Limerick, Ireland. This will provide funding to support projects that will leave a positive impact on the local community around host venue Adare Manor and across Limerick.
Local organisations and projects can apply for grants of up to €20,000. To be eligible, applicants must be working to deliver positive impact in Limerick City and County across one or more of the following five areas: Community; Skills & Education; Environment; Disability; Regeneration. These have been chosen because they align with the 2023-2028 Local Economic and Community Plan for Limerick City and County, and the Ryder Cup’s Beyond the Fairway programme which works to leave a positive legacy in the communities that host golf’s greatest team contest.
Applications are now open and can be made by completing the application form on the Ryder Cup website at www.rydercup.com/content/2027-legacy-fund. Applications will close on 29th January 2027. Successful applicants will be informed by 30th April 2027, in the build up to the Ryder Cup itself that takes place at Adare Manor from 13th-19th September, 2027.
A Steering Committee has been created to review the applications, comprising representatives from Ryder Cup Europe, Limerick City and County Council, and the Manager of the Limerick Senior Hurling Team, John Kiely.
Speaking about the new Fund Richard Atkinson, Chief Ryder Cup Officer at the European Tour Group, said: “The Ryder Cup will be the biggest sporting event to be staged on the island of Ireland and we want to make sure that the event transcends golf and delivers long-term benefits for the local community. This new Impact & Legacy Fund will allow locally rooted organisations and individuals to use the Ryder Cup to further the excellent work they are already doing to make the region an even better place to live and work. We’re excited to see this launch, and to engage with local stakeholders to encourage a wide pool of applications.”
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, said: “The hosting of major international sports events provides opportunities to boost participation levels in sport and physical activity. Ensuring a lasting legacy from these events is a key priority for the Government, therefore I am particularly pleased that this funding will result in many worthy community projects around Limerick benefiting from Ireland’s hosting of the Ryder Cup, for many years to come.”
Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Postal Policy, Charlie McConalogue TD, said: “Communities are the beating heart of Irish sport, providing shared identity, vital volunteer support, and a deep sense of belonging. Recognising the role that community groups play in celebrating diversity and breaking down barriers, especially for the vulnerable, such as children, migrants, and people with disabilities, this initiative will help to build stronger and healthier communities, in the Mid-West region.”

This Impact & Legacy Fund will help ensure that local communities, organisations and projects share in the benefits of hosting one of the world's greatest sporting events, leaving a positive impact that will be felt long after the final putt is holed."
The new 2027 Ryder Cup Impact & Legacy Fund is one of many initiatives that will see Ryder Cup Europe give back to the local community. In addition, staging a Ryder Cup provides a boost for host regions by generating surges in international travel, increases in footfall to local hospitality businesses, enhanced regional infrastructure, and extensive global media exposure that delivers long-term value to the local tourism industry.
