Donald made OBE in King’s Birthday Honours List
European Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List, being made an OBE for services to golf.
The Englishman held the position of World Number One for 56 weeks and in 2011 he became the first player to top the money lists on both the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR in the same year.
After featuring in four victorious Ryder Cups as a player, he led Team Europe to back-to-back Ryder Cup victories in Rome in 2023 and New York in 2025. Next year, at Adare Manor in Ireland, he will attempt to become the first person in the 100-year history of the biennial contest to captain a team to three consecutive wins.
Donald said: “I am very grateful to be receiving this honour. It is a proud moment for me, for my family and for all the people I have been fortunate to work with throughout my career, both individually and in the Ryder Cup.
“This is very much recognition of what we have achieved together. That, of course, includes all the players, vice captains, caddies and staff who were part of the Ryder Cup victories in Rome and New York.
“They were special experiences, and I am determined that we go on to enjoy further success at Adare Manor next year.”
Donald captained Team Europe to a 16½ - 11½ victory against the United States at Marco Simone, Rome in 2023, and a 15-13 win at Bethpage, New York last September.
He contributed 10½ points from his 15 matches as a player, making his debut at Oakland Hills in 2004 and featuring in further successes at The K Club in 2006, The Celtic Manor Resort in 2010 and Medinah in 2012.
Donald’s illustrious professional career spans 25 years to dateand includes seven victories on the DP World Tour and five on the PGA TOUR. The 48 year old was previously made an MBE in 2012.
